Naresh Giangrande, is co-founder of the Transition Towns concept. He is on Waiheke with Sophy Banks, focaliser of its Heart and Soul group. Naresh and Sophy are facilitators of the Training for Transition workshops and are on a four month, world-wide tour, supporting the launch of local initiatives.
"We think of our tour as acting like the bumblebees in Open Space – bringing ideas from one place and learning as they go, cross-fertilizing evolving projects and discussions. Our intention is to bring the combined wisdom and practice of the Transition field to other parts of the world, and carry with us the ideas and wisdom of those who are meeting and training. It feels an immensely satisfying and privileged role in these extraordinary times."
At the public meeting on Waiheke they will talk about the phenomenal progress of the original Transition Town of Totnes as well as developments taking place in other parts of the world. The Transition model, while world-wide, is based on local initiatives - think "Ooooby".
[Note: while this event is not strictly a "food" event, it seemed appropriate to announce it here, as it supports the valuable work that Transition Towns is doing, and which has inspired Ooooby]
