Tauranga Monthly Film Nights is supporting a fundraising project led by Johnson Moseti and Julia Sich-Moseti. Kenyan-born Johnson and his wife Julia are raising funds to support the High School education of Momanyi and Solomon Jr. Moseti, two of Johnson's nephews who live in the village of Matunwa in the Kenyan district of Kisii. In Kenya, education is not free even for the poorest people, and must be paid for “up front”; education, however, is essential to enable children to move out of poverty, realise their full potential, and assist with the progress of their communities.
Johnson and Julia will talk about their two young nephews and life in Kenya; this will be followed by a screening of the beautiful and engaging film “Taking Root – The Vision of Wangari Maathai”, which tells the story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai. Wangari's simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide environmental movement that also protects human rights and defends democracy. The film screening will be followed by tea, coffee and socialising.
