Hey Guys,

1stly can I say that Ooooby is a great idea & I am loving learning new things all the time.

An idea that I think would be great is a planting / transplanting / harvesting calendar - this could come up on everyones "My Page" & could be shared on a general calendar on the main page, or just as a "this week Pete Russell sowed some tomato seeds & transplanted some lettuce". This would mean that people like myself, who are planting their 1st of 2nd veggie garden have an idea of when to best plant things could learn about when different people suggest the ideal transplanting times etc. Also at harvesting time people could give an idea of just how much crop they got (so whether the planting time was correct or would have been better a couple of weeks earlier or later).

Also I have been reading that keeping a garden diary is important so that you know when you planted last year & if it worked well - this would be a way of having your garden diary online.

I have done some web design etc. & would be willing to help in any part of Ooooby if needed.

Thanks again for a great social network

Pete
Beautiful! Thank you Pete - this is what is needed. I will make sure Will sees this note and your ideas which I think are spot on.

Cheers Pete, great suggestion and good food for thought, oooo I made an accidental pun :-)

What kind of webstuff have you done?

Curiously -Will
Hey Will,

I have created a couple of websites through dreamweaver & 2 or 3 in front page express as well as some Flash. My job is working as a demo artist & trainer on Film & TV software, so I am very computer literate & will always find a way around a problem.

Having writen this discussion earlier, I have had a play with a couple of options on calendars, including using google calendars, 30 boxes & also I had a look at calendar applications.

Please do get in touch if I can help out in any way

regards

Pete

i do like the ideas already suggested! only comment at this stage is i would quite like to see a list of recently posted blogs on the home page (i guess like there used to be) - could you still do a featured blog post of your choosing, then have individual new blog posts under that so can see when new ones come in. if that makes sense.

do have another comment actually, after reading rich's below - would be quite good to know whether offers have been taken up or still open, and also for example a while ago i posted that people were welcome to take cuttings/divisions of perennial herbs, which is a standing offer, but not something i would probably remember to keep re-posting.

i do quite like logging on and seeing what's been changed! thanks for all the work so far guys.
Hi Christy - I managed to hack this and get a summary of the recent blog posts as a list above the featured blog posts in detail. Thanks for the suggestion it was a good one.

Some good ideas here Rich, thank you.

There are exactly the kinds of things we are bouncing around, Trademe-like interface! EXACTLY! Except of course we want location awareness to be knitted in so the search pulls up those closest to you first.

And I love your thoughts on the educational aspects and "experts"... Google are already adding features like this. I was thinking of combining this with aspects of a wiki-style knowledgebase, so within the page, say "Jam Making" the author and other experts are listed in a colourful way based on their profile and facility to contact them to answer any questions.

I think this knowledge / educational area is really important as so many guys news to gardening are coming onstream and these newbie-ooooby-ites are hungry for tips.
Hi Pete,

thanks for the run down. Be good to connect for a chat some time down the track as projects come up.

I am loving ooooby. I love keeping a record of what I do in my garden and it's so motivating to have people to share it with.

Two little problems with the site that might be fixable...

1. The little slideshow that shows the photos I upload shows them in reverse order. I wanted my photos to tell a story but it made the story go backwards.

2. When someone comments on a post, it's unclear whether I should reply directly under their comment on the post or whether I should reply on their wall.
Happy you are diving in and making it work for you.

The only way around the slide show issue is to delete them and relaod in the in the other order - sorry for that - this wagon has no reverse gear...

2. When someone comments on a post, it's unclear whether I should reply directly under their comment on the post or whether I should reply on their wall.

Generally people reply to a comment in the place the comment was made - but it's not fixed, and you may choose to make a more personal note on the comment author's page if you wish.
just so you know.... some photos are stretched out vertically (a lot!) on my web browser, i'm running IE ver 6.0.... (for example the media photo & on some blog posts e.g. shambala farm) maybe it's just me.... my partners computer has mozilla and they are fine.
I have been on other forums where a list is displayed of every member that has visited the sight in the last 6 or so hours, I think this might be nice for people who would like to see the activity level ?

Also, it would be cool to be able to view a basic geographic display or listing of the members, so that one might gauge local involvement. I understand that this is all fairly new so it may not be that helpfull yet, but I think it would be awesome once it gets up and running.
Glen.
