NEW TO HERBS

Hi, I'm new to Ooooby and am interested in swapping herbs and learning more about how to use them.  I live near Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty and currently have Angelica (shiny leaf and seeds of Giant Purple), Bergamot, Hyssop (one precious seedling that germinated!), Roman Chamomile, Echinacea, St. Johns Wort, Pyrethrum, Rue, Tansy, loads of Shoo Fly, Parsley, Chives, Thyme, Oregano, Marjoram, Lemon Balm, Peppermint and Mint.  I'd like to get hold of Feverfew, Lovage, Dill, Fennel and Soapwort and anything else that anyone thinks is interesting or useful.  Thanks;)

  • hi melissa,  just wondering if you have marjoram seeds , also any thyme other than normal and any oregano with leaves with white edges....thanks helen

  • Fennel you see everywhere on the side of the road  and in

paddocks, i have one and now cant get rid of it...but never

saved the seeds ...as trying to dispose of it , they grow so

big and take up a lot of room and sun for a town garden ...

If I could send it I would !! have fun , helen

  • Hi Melissa, herbs are pretty tough , i generally put them in damp tissue and

cover in cling film , pat fairly flat and post for about a $1.80, i also have

parcel , not a herb really, but great for salads, it is a cross between parsley &

celary happy to include and swap for Roman Chamomile, txt me your address

and i will send tomorrow  as i have to go to post anyway. Just curious as to

what you use Angelica for?? cheers, helen , o21-1o82-13o, Napier

  •

I have feverfew - small plants right now - suitable for posting...happy to swap for small oregano as mine didnt take this year... also interested in which herb you think keeps bugs/slugs and white butterflys away the best as you have pretty much all the ones i have heard of !! - but not yet tried out  - am trying shoo fly this year ... cheers, helen

    •  Hi Melissa, need to get your address , realised i didnt have it when

i decided to post off to you, cheers, helen

    • Hi Helen!  I'd love a feverfew plant and would be more than happy to send an oregano.  I've never sent a plant by mail so will find out about it, cost etc (what area in NZ do you live in?) and we'll go from there.  I'm not sure if there are herbs that keep slugs or white butterflies away, the most I do for white butterflies is to throw an old net curtain over my brassicas!  I continue to battle with slugs and snails using whatever methods I can - usually with Quash (I know - not very nice for the soil!).  I'm hoping all my Shoo fly plants will help with the ENORMOUS white fly epidemic I seem to be suffering - they're everywhere!
