I have had a look around the internet and found some info on smoking my own peppers to make smoky paprika. Has anyone tried this at all and if so, how successful was it please?

The only thing that seems to stop the bunnies out here is a topical application of lead... then a seasoned crock pot...

Backing up Helen on spices. We are growing some good looking turmeric and producing reasonable amounts of good tasting ginger. We've also had good luck at the old place with chillies but we'd be glad to hear from anyone else growing the good stuff.

Especially we need to know more about harvesting and preparing them. I have no idea how to manage the turmeric which continues to grow all year round without any seasonality like ginger. Suggestions always welcome.

Whoa. Bunnies eat WORMWOOD??? Dang. Looks like we'll need to have a battalion of Marigolds out again. And I had hoped to have plenty of Lavendar in the orchard ley as well. They haven't found our few plants so far but maybe its a different strain.

H Earl

We're in Bombay/Mangatawhiri and had some wormwood, but the blasted bunnies nibbled it right down to a nub, and it hasn't come back - same with my line of english lavender!

While we are looking, I had a great line of wormwood at our old place but none of the cuttings survived the shift. Anyone got a plant I can take cuttings from near Bombay?

Yea most places do sell it, you just gotta know what your looking for, and if you cant find it, ask. Borage is fairly common, and is almost always available. Otherwise, if you come into hamilton one day soon, gimme a heads up, i have thousands of the damned things that i dont want! :D

Hi Shar, I was in Morrinsville Mitre 10 this morning and they had borrage plants in pots, I think theyre about $3.60 i think or close enough. theyre prettty good for getting stock in as well if youre after things in particular. hope that helps, if all else fails i have a few in the garden.

Is there anyone local to me (Waikato - sth or matamata piako area) who can point me in the direction of some borrage plants or seed? It doesn't seem to be on sale at any of the plant shops.
