Comment by Shaun on July 26, 2012 at 6:58am Hi Don. It depends on the size of the system you are planning and also do you want to harvest the fish. If you are planning to harvest the fish then there are a lot of grey areas. The first place to start would be your local DOC office as there are a lot of protected fish. We are just using cold water pet fish at the moment, mostly comet, as they are very hardy. We only have a small system for testing, but soon we are going to increase the size of this and start with fish, fresh water muscles cray and other edibles. We will check with DOC and the Ministry of Fisheries as the list of what we can use changes occasionally, when we do or if you find out sooner we will post it here. Cheers Shaun
Comment by Don Byars on July 25, 2012 at 4:13pm Hi guys. Just wondering which species of freshwater fish we can grow in aquaponic systems in NZ. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Cheers, Don
