  • Thanks for all the replies :) I think I'll purchase a Nosloc. The chooks are drinking heaps more water as the weather warms up so I think I'll have to buy another poultry drinker.
  • Nosloc feeders are great and save you money in wasted feed as well.

No more feeding the sparrows ;-)

Buy direct from their website and save them a TM fee.
  • I'm very happy with my feeder from Nosloc products, but I haven't tried any others. They do seem to be cheaper than the ones the chooks stand on though.
  • ive used one of those square plastic cat feeders, when we have gone away for the weekend to tauranga. Its gravity fed so the more they eat the more food appears, although it is light weight they can knock it over, but you could peg it in place with two weed mat staples, by drilling small diameter holes the same distance apart as the staples, into the plastic tray on the bottom.
  • I used a standard feeder like this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Farming-forestry...
We suspended it off the ground under shelter and a full bucket lasted a week with 5 hens. But it doesn't stop the rodents and other birds helping themselves.
My friend with a couple of dozen hens has bought a "Chookateria" on Trademe. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Farming-forestry...
She said the hens learnt to use it very quickly and the rodents aren't heavy enough to open it.
