Kia ora koutou,
The garden was today host to a celebration of Matariki and the Winter Solstice. About 20 people were in attendance - Sisters of Mercy, volunteers and friends of the garden and a youth leadership group from McAuley High School. We held a ceremony to remember, let go and celebrate the year behind us. This was followed by soup and bread in the house.
To quote in part from the day's prayer (written by Dennis Horton, of the Mercy Pou Atawhai Mission Centre):
welcome to this new season of light,
brightening the sky over our wintry land,
promising a spring of fresh growth
and the harvest of another summer.
Here are a few images of the garden to capture the spirit of rest and renewal that comes with winter.
Images are of: green cauliflower, pear tree, lettuce, arum lilly, nasturtium, statue of Mary in centre garden, pruned rose bush.
