Plum tree cuttings

A couple of weeks ago I took some plum tree cuttings - decent size, older wood.  For various reasons I have not yet been able to do anything with them.  Does anyone know how long you can keep cuttings before they are not useful anymore?  Or have suggestions to increase my strike rate? I plan on potting them this weekend and seeing what happens.

keep them inside a ziplock bag in the fridge to retain moisture, I have a little tree grown from a cutting, the only one that took was about 1cm diameter, smaller ones didn't make it, it was sent through the mail for a few days but still grew, I am sure you will take your chances anyway :)

Pencil thickness, of young shoots (last season's growth) will grow almost every time. I just stick them in the ground and they grow. Plant within two or three days of taking.
