Today I picked - coriander, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, parsley, basil, silverbeet, bok choy, broccolini, garlic. We plan to have a stir fry dinner tonight. All the excess I have bagged up for my daughter and my neighbour and mother in law.

Very hot here to day in Perth so I picked everything that was edible to beat the intense heat burning it all off! Have popped up beach umbrellas over the cucumber since it struggles in this type of heat - grows well though if shaded.

I also sprayed for fruit fly today after picking 5 yummy figs. Then sprayed dipel (natural bacterial spray for caterpillars) on the broccolini since the cabbage moths are out in force this week.

Had underground retic on for an hour this morning to prepare for the heat all the plants look ok so far. The new tomatoes are thriving and should grow well today - heritage variety that likes heat!

Fed the worms all the scraps from this mornings harvest and checked they were not too hot or dry - all good in their little home!

Well that's it for now have a great weekend all!

Yum, Hester...I've tasted that before, when friends did it. It's stronger than regular bacon, of course...but absolutely delicious!

This morning I picked fennel, broad beans, lettuces, sugar snaps, carrots, silverbeet, spinach and celeriac...all soggy and sodden, but looking great! The spinach is finished, so I have to replant sometime soon. The sugar snaps are finished for the time being, while the next lot are still growing, so they had to be pulled. I have some spaces free now for future plantings. Now, what shall I choose......

Gary and a friend are making home-cured bacon today, with wild pork-should be interesting.

have been eating some lovely odells cos lettuces, they are quick to grow and have the most succulent little heart. planted out the melon plants, first time I have managed to germinate some so will be interesting. also some more peas and some lazy housewife beans, just had to have those, the name is very aspirational!

today was a day of rest but as for tomorrow it will be full on even if it rains for there is much to be done in the gardens.. gathering of materials, transplanting of herbs and things, cleaning of the area for the herbs to go into, clearing the peace garden and gathering the materials for it, gathering the last of the materials to finish off our chook house within the next week or two...extending of the bastard trench to enable better drainage.. ( perhaps that is why the herbs dont like where they are...as most of the run off heads there way )...planting of more soya beans seeds perhaps this time I will straight int o where they will be instead of seedlings....putting half the seed I have into the freezer and half of what is left out in the ground and to grind some...or make tofu with once i figure out how to...sighs always the calm before the storm sighs.....

I'm excited because the saffron crocus corms I ordered a while back, arrived today. I'm looking foward to having our own saffron one day. Also got a new outside tap installed today but the big sky tap is working very well at the moment. Haven't had to water for a few days.

Darn! I should've gone out and picked salad greens and herbs before, like I had planned...now it's pouring down again! (I am TRYING to send some of this rain to Kawakawa, honestly!)
