One slice per sandwich! I have got to get me some of them seeds! haha. I want to make some pasta sauce this year too...might need a few more tomatoes seeded up I think.

Oops...forgot to mention...Hester is our local 'seed queen'. She has wonderful varieties of all sorts of veges, especially tomatoes and peppers. An absolute treasure!

I haven't grown most of them before, Jane, apart from Black Krim (which is absolutely delicious!). Great White, is a large beefsteak, creamy coloured. Big White, I am not quite sure, but happy to give it a go LOL.

Last year I grew about 8 varieties, varying shapes, colours and sizes. I really enjoyed the flavour and texture of Black from Tula and they're a nice large tomato as well, one slice per sandwich! Most of the others were very nice, good for salads, and I made lots of pasta sauce - delish!

Wow Lynn, all those tomatoes thats amazing as I haven't heard of half of them! Whats the difference between great white & big white? i am growing only 3 types from seed...black krim, beefsteak & white cherry which I've not ever tried before let alone seen until I got them from kali & they are growing  really well in their containers.

Tomato seedlings gifted to me by Hester last week are doing well. Thanks heaps Hester. Today I am sowing Black Krim, Yellow Wonder, Great White, Big White, Lucky Cross, Nepal, Burpees Long Keeper, Purple Cherokee and Earl of Edgecombe - all tomatoes, seeds gifted by Richard. Many thanks Richard. It is a joy to be able to keep these heirlooms going. I look forward to being able to share these next season.

Have re sown all my seeds I had done over a month ago, they are now on the window sill in kitchen and dining room, hopefully the luck will be with me this time. This time I have planted seeds I recieved from Kali and Hester.. May the force be with them hehehehe Moon force that is.

Another possibility Miriam, if you are getting lots of seedlings is to prick them out when they are big enough.  this entails carefully taking the seedlings out of the pot they were sown in and replanting into new pots. This will give each seedling a better chance of survival and will allow them to grow more freely and not become "leggy".

Hi Miriam, sounds like you are making a good start - its such a buzz to grow your own plants.  The main thing is to keep them moist and to ensure they are in even light so they dont grow leggy and distorted. Move them cautiously from the tray to more open/direct light. But they do need plenty of even natural light.  I keep planting so I will have a continuous supply of seedlings but this year I now have a small cupboard sized poly house which is just great.

Hi Rex, I'm a newbie to this all. Mine are in a warm room (the washhouse gets all the morning sun and holds the heat, I created my own little cover with a thick piece of polythene (they're all in egg cartons in a cut-down banana box.  I've had them sitting away from direct sunlight.  Almost all my beetroot plants have come up, most of my processing toms, but only one cherry tom (out of 6) and 1 lettuce out of many.

Should I move the ones which have sprouted out of the tray with a cover, and into more sunshine?

Just planted a bunch more seeds in there.

I'd appreciate any pointers :)
