Swap rhubarb for.. ???

how do m'lovelies :)

We have several rhubarb plants in our garden - I suspect that the previous owners were big fans, but neither of us are and they're sited right where we're planning to build a chicken run!

I'll keep a couple to see if homegrown rhubarb will convert me, but would anyone like a crown or two? Possibly in return for something else, like some seeds or some other perennial plant?

thanks, Sophie (Halswell)

  • Hi Sophie, you must be crazy rhubarb is great, just needs loads of sugar. If you havnt any better offers id be keen, can swap some red dahlia tubers, or some just dug potatoes.

    • I know, I'm a heathen :) I am going to keep a couple of plants to see whether I can convince my tastebuds next year though!

Red dahlia tubers sound lovely - but first I shall wait and see how many crowns moggy would like :)

  • I am after rhubarb as one of our wwoofers decided to erm weed the rhubarb patch, including all the rhubarb. I can offer loads of different sorts of seeds in return as I grow and sell a lot on trade me, or I could give industrial quantities of water cress as I am over run with it
    • That was quick :)

Hubby in particular is very anti-watercress, so seeds are probably better.. what do you have?

    • allsorts, I grow to sell on trademe. Mainly green vegies, assorted lettuces, chinese greens, kale, celery, celeriac, beet, celtuce, I have loads of different sorts. Also some flower seeds, probably easiest to say what you are looking for.
    • I'm intrigued! I had to look up celtuce (what a heathen) - sounds interesting.. something like that, or just plain lettuce would be fab. I like trying new things, but probably shouldn't go overboard and not sow anything I don't *know* we'll like too :)

What do you think would be a fair trade? I have up to 5 rhubarb crowns available :)
