Hi guys, has anyone grown tomatoes, bell peppers and chili outdoor without a greenhouse in Chch area? I'm in Banks Peninsula and I plan to grow them without a greenhouse this season. Any pointers or will it be an impossible attempt?

Hi Everyone,
Avon-Otakaro Network and Canterbury Community Gardens Association members are looking to put on an event at the Spring River Festival in October 20-21, 2012.
Ideas have been swapped about having a seed and seedling stall and encouraging people to get plants started for their gardens and exchange any early produce or spare seedlings.
If you are keen to help out with this, please contact Bailey Peryman via gardencity2.0@communitygardens.org.nz or (03) 326 6927 / 021 122 7638

Hi Everyone,

I am working for the Canterbury Community Gardens Association to build the capacity of this organisation to support existing and potential new community gardening and local food initiatives in 'Greater Christchurch'.

The project is called Garden City 2.0 and I am keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved or can help to make a connection with any people/groups/organisations with common interests.

Please contact Bailey Peryman at gardencity2.0@communitygardens.org.nz, via Facebook, or by calling (03) 326 6927 / 021 122 7638

Has anyone grown blackstrawberries in Canterbury with any success. A friend of mine has been given 6 plants which have been raised in a glasshouse and we are wondering if outside Canterbury conditions are suitable for them.

Hi Richard, thanks for the quick reply, that sounds very interesting. I'll send you a pm if that's ok. I actually don't need heaps of logs though, just a couple would be fine. Have you had any experience with growing mushrooms?

i know where to get heaps of poplar logs, are you able to get a trailer to get them??,what i know about growing mushrooms on logs is that the logs need to be fresh,so you what need to drop the tree and take it away straight away,

Hi, I'm looking for some logs to try and grow mushrooms on. No coniferous trees or eucalyptus, but everything else should be worth a try. Could trade some feijoas and rhubarb, unless the rhubarb freezes to bits first, seed or old macrocarpa sleepers in various stages of rot (maybe I could grow mushrooms on those...)

Hi. Does anyone know if any organic vegetable grower/farm in CHCH is looking for a part time worker? I have a certificate in Sustainable growing course and experience in working at vineyard and small organic farm. Thanks!

I watched Trade Me and over time got five 1000 litre tanks, four of which I placed at each corner of the house in Waiau. I have one in Kaiapoi to catch garage run off. The bins are the ones that have had food quality liquids in. Farmers use them as transportable water. I paid around $100 each for them.
