Hi all,

I just joined oooby and live in Upper Hutt. Am just curious what is going on in Upper Hutt with regard to vege gardening etc. I have a small vegepatch in my backyard and am at the moment starting to make plans for the coming summer harvest..... Would love to learn more about vegegardening and am also curious about selling produce in upper hutt. Will probably come to the meeting 21 st of July

Hi Upper Hutt-ers,
I've just moved to the area, and just joined Ooooby. I notice comments below about getting together and seeing what plans can be hatched. If people are still keen, then I'd love to join in, and am happy to host any takers at my place as a way to get the ball rolling. I will start a discussion so that we can make plans in that forum...

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd let you all know about a series of events I have been running in Upper Hutt called "Healthy Homes, Happy Pockets". They have been a highly successful series of free public information evenings around saving money and looking after the environment at the same time. In the future we are looking at running some seminars on composting and gardening, but with winter here we are running one on keeping warm (We're always open to suggestions of more topics too!).

Our fifth event is next week, and this topic of renewable energy in the home has been chosen by demand. Here's the details:

Winter's here! Have no fear!
Learn new ways to keep your home warm at our next free public information evening Healthy Homes, Happy Pockets.

Tuesday 1 June, 6-8pm
Hapai Club, 879-881 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt

Come along on the first official day of winter to learn more about:
- cheap and easy ways to keep the heat in your home
- renewable energy for heating your house (for example solar water heating and pellet burners)

***Topics have been chosen by demand! Get in quick to register your place*** Registrations are essential. To register or for more information, contact Meghan on 5272794 or community@uhcc.govt.nz

FREE EVENT! Supper provided and prize draw on the night.
Brought to you by Community Services, Upper Hutt City Council, and the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority.

See www.upperhuttcity.com events page to find it on the web.

Hello everyone. Hope some of you can join us for the first series of Dirt Doctor seminars in Wellington this May to learn about bringing your soil to life. Some of you may be familiar with Dirt Doctor from Jim O'Gorman in 'Earth Whisperers' or know his son Matt Dadley, who taught seminars in Wellington before moving to India. My wife Hana and I have been in training with both to help them spread the word about growing the soil that grows your garden. We have just returned from Jim's place in North Otago where we were lucky enough to see (and taste!) 'the proof in the pudding', the fruits of an extremely productive and rich, soil-focused garden. And we're ready to get the wheels in motion again in Wellington!

Here is the link to the event

Dirt Doctor seminars provide the secrets to growing a lot of food, in little space for busy people. Soil-focused gardening gives you a new perspective on the benefits of weeds, an appreciation of the good microbes living within the soil and the knowledge you need to bring your own soil to life.

Please contact me if you are interested as places are limited to 10 people each. Hope to see you there!
