Topic: Getting 'Gifty' with the Garden

Let's get Creative for Christmas. This evening will be a fun get together to learn how to make some nice things from and for the garden.

We will make 'seedbombs' which can be fun and educational gifts, and are fun for kids too.

If you have any gifty garden ideas, please bring them to share, preferably with some instructions we can copy or write down. Things such as plant based Christmas decorations and edible treats.

Looking forward to getting gifty with you!

Comment by David Bell on October 9, 2010 at 4:51pm: Lesson the first. For setting, jams and jellies require that pectin and fructose be provided, and separated. In some fruits, pectin levels are very high, with plenty of sucrose. Plums and lemons are particularly high. Fruit should have some fairly ripe, with high fructose levels, and some a bit on the green side, which provides the pectin.

Some fruits are very low in pectin, but have plenty of fructose. Apples, quince, pyracanth are some examples. The juice of two lemons is usually sufficient to provide the needed pectin. If you have access to Edmonds Cookery Book, their marmalade recipe is a good illustration.

Also did you realise the CCS monthly lectures is also the first week of the month Tuesday though and some of the people who attend that talk would probably be interested in the same topics as Ooooby versity would you consider moving it to another thursday in the month?
