Come and celebrate local food in our community - be inspired by the initiatives of other local foodies all over New Zealand - and increase your awareness about rapidly changing legal rights and responsibilities around food production and distribution in NZ....
With the support of Waihi Community Resource Centre, Katikati Community Resource Centre, and Waihi College, Earthcare Education Aotearoa are running an evening double-bill presentation, local food ‘potluck’ supper and discussion about local food resilience on the following two evenings:
Wednesday 27 March, 6-9.30pm at Waihi College, Kensington Road, Waihi
Thursday 28 March, 6-9.30pm at the Katikati Community Resource Centre, 45 Beach Road, Katikati
Robina McCurdy and Susie Lees will present up-to-date information and facilitate discussion about legislation such as the Food Bill, National Animal Identification Bill, and relevant aspects of the Resource Management Act.
Earthcare Education Aotearoa, is a charitable trust touring NZ as part of a national ‘Localising Food Tour’. They are delivering a series of workshops to empower people to grow their own food and to mobilise communities for food self-reliance. Sharing inspiration and ideas from a multitude of exciting local food initiatives from all over New Zealand, they are also encouraging communities to develop local food resilience action plans.
Being prepared for the realities of climate instability on communities includes thinking about our food. As we see the costs of food continuing to rise, food security slipping, and an upward trend in people interested in growing their own food, the time to act is now - people need these resources on the ground in communities around NZ.

Bring along something 'local' for the potluck, and enjoy the sharing - ideas, food and company!
Please spread the invitation - no need to book - just turn up!

I have an extension ladder. If you have some way of picking it up and taking it home you are welcome to borrow it.

hi all just joined this site   don't mean to complicate but thought a Waihi network wouldn't go amiss.               On that note - Anyone have a tall ladder we could borrow to clear our drains..? We also have heaps of seedlings if anyone wants to swap. Artichokes galore, tomato. ALso our mesclun has all gone mad. Keen to swap for a pumpkin or two (actual pumpkin not seedlings) Have a great week everyone

Hi Thanks Nina for the its been so long since I've logged on in here that my profile was years out of date. All updated now - have a new home, new location and new garden challenges. Have been landscaping and pulling out invasive plants so now have a HUGE hole to fill on the bank. So anyone got any fill they want to get rid of? Would prefer soil lol. I do have some seeds to swap, lots of huge skyscraper sunflowers and vege/herb seeds and eggs from my 4 chooks. Not available Wednesdays but wld to get involved with community garden. Raw milk & Earth oven sounds interesting too ....
