The unpacking started with the box containing one of the most important ingredients used in our kitchen:)
Have managed to grow enough to set aside some for planting next month so slowly building up our stock.
thanks Kali, hanging from the second hook from the right is your purple garlic at the top of the plait :)
must be so much fun moving in and seeing all your treasures again :) good looking garlic, nearly time to get planting again here.
thanks Scott, this is only my second year growing garlic :) I learnt lots from Hester's favourite garlic site and if you're looking for inspiration, take a look at all the garlic photos on ooooby. As for growing tips, choose the biggest cloves you can find to plant, organically grown bulbs from your local farmers' market is a good place to get your planting stock as it will be adapted to your local conditions - even better is garlic from a neighbours' garden. Resist eating everything you grow and keep saving the best bulbs as your planting stock. Keep your garlic bed weed free and as soon as the shoots emerge, feed them every couple of weeks with worm wee and/or liquid chicken manure until the bulbs start forming. Don't overwater when the bulbs have formed. Keep us posted on your progress :)
wow.... going to have my first go at garlic next month. any tips
