I brought some seed from Koanga; just to have a go. I don't think I will do it again. Although over winter I am going to try Oats.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Just one Q: what type of rice did you grow? first trial? Thanks.
Ours is only a small frount yard. And things have not gone entirly to plan (or really anything like the plan). I should take a photo of the state it is in at the moment and post it. But the key thing is I need to work on a good free locally avalible liquid compost to replace some of the minerals in my soil.
Thats a beautiful garden..im having small section envy again!
I planted them all 1 to 2 years ago; they are spaceded about 1m apart. They are all doing fine at present.
Comment by Helen on August 16, 2011 at 12:13pm You will still need good spacing for the hedge or you may find that the less vigourous slower frowing trees wont thrive and become more susceptible to disease. Given the price of fruit trees it would just be a waste of money. You will also be struggling to grow any thing much under them as trees are hungry beggars, stripping the soil of nutrients and will cast quite a bit of shade.
Why not plant a single species hedge such as feijoas which can be trimmed to a height. I wouldn't recommend mixed citrus as a hedge as they all have different growth habits and not so amenable to trimming
Some times less is more
