We have a fence around the entire community garden so hopefully no rabbits, there's much tastier fare that they'd start on before they'd bother with my garlic if they have managed to get in.  Snails aren't usually a problem, not noticed any slime trails and the birds have been having a field day tossing all the mulch around looking for worms so would have thought that they'd find them first. Will peek under the mulch to see if there are any slugs, have always mulched, usually with pea straw, this is my first and last time using barley straw - much easier to pull up the pea seedlings & they don't look like garlic bulbil shoots! Pulled a few garlic up by mistake already thinking that they were barley seedlings

they look like big nips, do you have snails? or rabbits?
