Kristen Morse replied to Elaine Hope's discussion Help with sulking chooks in the group Poultry in Urbania
"Given that they are Bantams they may well have gone broody, if that is the case you will have to deny them access to the nest either by shutting it off or if that is not practical putting them in a cage with no nesting material and only water to…"

Help with sulking chooks

I had suspected our 3 bantams were spoilt before our holiday, but now it's confirmed. Before our break we were getting 21 eggs per week, but whilst we were away productivity dropped to 4 in 10 days! Since our return a week ago we've had nowt and they spend all day huddled in the nest box and are not tempted out with leaf beet, their usual favourite. Any ideas about encouraging the return to laying? See More

"Hi Elaine, I'm sure by now you've solved your leg mite problem but just thought I'd add what I know in case it's a easier solution for you. I buy a light cooking oil in a spray can just from the super market. Then when…"

Dispatching scaley leg mite

One of our 4 hens has had obvious scaley leg mite since we got them all 9 months ago. The other 3 don't seem to have caught them yet despite very iintimate dust bathing together and 'host' hen's infestation doesn't seem to have got much worse. Is it worth the 'upset' of ridding host hen of mites or should we leave well alone?ElaineSee More
