This group is to draw together the experiences of those living the dream and sharing the lessons learned on the way with those still working towards living on the land.See More

A 1-bedroom unit for rent with garden space to grow and backyard poultry potential, close to Petone

HiThis opportunity will appeal to someone who would like to start growing their own food while renting as I am offering up garden space to produce fruit and vege with the rental (and even a chookhouse if you are keen on staying long-term). Happy to share garden tools and knowledge, and certainly open to someone making over unused areas of my section if fit for purpose. You'll be in greenie haven on the bush-clad slopes of Western Hills, very close to Petone, which is just 2 mins drive and SH2 is…See More

It would not be too off the mark to say for awhile there, the story of my gardening attempts would have been titled “Going nuts over weeds while living with natives". Now transforming my bush-dominated urbanish backyard into an edible one, with the challenge of Wellington's hilly and windy aspects. Started small with planting fruit trees and a nut tree, finally made peace with my weeds (they’re edible - mostly!) and now in the process of liberating my lawn. I aim to integrate food and animal elements alongside natives, and get to that day when I can harvest loads of produce from my section - weeds, natives, nuts and all.
