EGGS

Yay my girls are starting to lay. I think Wilma and Georgia are laying first as they seem to have the largest combs and I saw Georgia in her nest box today. I would like to add a couple of the chickens that lay the pale blue eggs as they are so cool. I would love to have those eggs in my basket on the bench.
Hope you have all had a lovely weekend.

overgrown

Well my garden is going out into serious weeds now that summer is over. The only great crop left is cucumbers - telegraph. They are fantastic. The figs have near enough finished, tomatoes are tasting ucky now ??? dunno why but they are totally past it. I made the last of my basil into pesto and froze in ice cubes for the winter soups, I have bottled and bottled peaches from mums tree, and apples - and have a freezer full of tomatoes that I have run out of jars for.

My chickens should be… Continue

Figs

My large fig tree is starting to burst with ripe fruit that the wax eyes are having a feast on. What is the best way to use up figs? I dont have a dehumidifier but would like dried figs - how do you do it in the oven - any clues. I am also after a ginger beer bug or where do I buy Brewers yeast that is not pasturised - somewhere in Manukau or Howick.

My garden is slowing down now and the corn has finished (although I still got to put a bag of it in the freezer), and most other summer… Continue

I'm really interested in the idea, the problem is that my family has a dog, who would probably not agree to chickens. But someday, either when the dog dies, or I get my own place, chickens will be de riguer.

hey i gess your actually about the same level as me.mine are all called chook apart from #6 (half the reason we had to rescue chickens was because not sure if laying- was a very large life stile plot , lots of hedges etc.)the two things i now know about chickens is that they dont like new chickens added to the existing batch and that they go mad for spam.

So what's your cage like? And what do you feed them?

Hey I saw on the comment you left on the welcome page that you have chooks. Do you find them easy to manage? What sort of section do you have? This is such a great initiative don't you think?

... so I am very interested in finding out what are you hoping to get/find/see/learn/do through this online part of Ooooby?

It would be great to see a pic of yourself up here - it really helps. So if you need help getting your photo up here, please sing out. To get you started on that, you can go to "My Page" and on the left hand side you'll see "Change My Photo"
