Thanks Lynda, I will keep the photo on Ooooby as long as it can stay here - is there a tine limit ? I enjoy taking pics of my bees, it is hard to get them to stay still for long, so sometimes it is a real fluke if I get one on the wing so to speak !…

Without seeing inside the hive it may be a Warre hive, a type of TopBar hive using bars instead of frames. It looks like it has a queen excluder between the 2nd and top box, the holes being the bee entrances. Where did you see this hive, eas it in N…

I face my hives north-east to catch the morning and afternoon sun, also it depends on what is in front of the hive, you don`t want their flight path to collide with the neighbours front door, so if you have no problems with houses around you, down h…

My garden is fairly small due to not enough hours in the day to do everything ! I mainly use pots and plant bee food as I have 2 hives at home, one being an ordinary Langstroth and the other my pride and joy - a TopBar hive - both full of busy bees !!

Hi Marcia, it was the photo of the bee swarm. No we don't have bees but I love them!
So I've joined up with the Ooooby bee group. In the weekend I talked with a lady at the
Grey Lynn Famers' market who suggested joining up with the Auckland beekeepers club.
I adore bumble bees too actually.... Going to check out your photos now! Thanks, Marjolijn

For sake of the bees, lets get this group together, and get a top bar hive in every backyard =) I can see that Jenny has tried to get you up here, there would be a audience here, and on Waiheke.

Hi Marcia,

Just like me Ive registered for the forum but still havent dived into it yet =) Right now im reading lectures on bees by Rudolf Steiner which talks about the soul of bees and why they do what they do, instead of the science, its amazing.

There isnt a lot of TB mentoring out there as there is conventional mentoring so we definately need to start a TB beekeeping society. Im one of the three getting a TBH together with Jenny and Denise. I know others that are interested in the TB method, someone could make a nice little business selling TB hives...

Hi Marcia, there are 3 of us very keen to get our own topbar hive. We were wondering what the cost of getting on built was? lf we build our own are there any wood that is better than others and any that we shouldn't use?

Hi Marcia,l am part of 2 groups, the other group being a Biodynamic group which is also an Oooby group, that would be very very keen to get you up. We have a planning session on 25 November...and will give you some dates for the new year after that. Is your beehive portable or are there other things that you could bring along to a talk?

Hi Marcia, I have been to quite a few courses at The Sustainable Living Centre in New Lynn and one of the courses that they are looking at holding is bee keeping. l am really interested in the topbar hive and though there are people in Auckland that could be asked to talk on beekeeping you are the only person who has a topbar hive. Would you be interested in giving a talk at the Centre? lf so what costs would be involved?

Timing is everything...

We go away for 10 days in January, so I try hard to arrange things in the garden so that there is not too much of a glut around this time. Mixed results at the moment - the climbing beans are climbing fast but no flowers yet, so that's good; the tomatoes have a few just starting to ripen but not many, good; cucumber growing but only flowers at present, good; celery regenerating as we pick it; BUT, the courgette is going nuts as are the lettuces. Parsley and spinach are going to seed. I'm thinkin…
