Kai - food for NZ

I've been involved in setting up kai.org.nz.

We've been trying to set up an easy to use database of edible plants in Aotearoa.

It's a not-for-profit project and set up like a wiki so everyone can add and edit.

It's still early days so please add whatever you think is useful and let me know your ideas for development etc.

HI again, well I have probably grown at least half of the seed varieties available from the SSE over the 4 years I have been involved, I hate it when things have dropped off the list because nobody grew them so I make a point of saving seed, sometimes at the expense of eating the crops...its fun and easier than most people would think once you know about crossing and selecting.

Hi Ricky, what are you growing from southern seed exchange? it will be interesting to watch the kai site take shape, there is a surprising diversity of edible plants available to grow once you get out of the commercial seed loop, but imagine what the diversity of plants would have been like at say the turn of the 19th century.
