Three cheers for the ICC for their defence of the arbutus!
News that the Invercargill City Council is standing up against criticism of their street-side strawberry trees is good news indeed.
Despite complaints from a few residents that the strawberry-like fruits that fall from the arbutus are being traipsed indoors and spoiling the carpet, the council has said, no, they'll not be chopping the 200 strawberry trees down anytime soon.

As you approach the town of Winton in the heart of Southland, you are greeted by the sight of a dozen or so London Plane trees, pollarded to to the max and begging the question, is this a the best way to manage an ammenity tree?

It would be hard to guess at the meaning of the phrase ‘nurse logs’ and get it right without having come across the term before. The words don’t seem at first to have any connection but when you look at the word ‘nurse’ as ‘nursery’ you’ll begin to get the picture of something that is often seen on the floor of any forest - a fallen, decaying log sprouting fungi, seedlings and a host of other new life.…Continue
