Bits about me

I am mostly interested in networked learning and community media ... and mashing the two up. And I wish I could grow more food than I currently do.

Some things I’m also involved in:

I am a founding member of Waiheke Radio, a community media project that is as much about community development as it is broadcasting.

I work as a Research Officer at the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute at The Auckland University of Technology where I develop for the web.

I'm a sysop and member of the WikiEducator Council. Wikieducator is a project for the development of Open Educational resources.

I'm a Custodian on the Wikiversity project which is part of the Wikimedia Foundation who’s motto is “Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That’s our commitment.”

I'm a Sysop and editor of Waihekepedia and one of the founders of Planet Waiheke which aggregates all things Waiheke on the web.

I am currently writing my MA Thesis at the University of Auckland on "Community Radio in New Zealand".

The wikibooks contribution idea is a good one. Maybe a posse of expert gardeners could get together to tackle that sort of project. Maybe we could develop an Ooooby Food Growers wiki book that could go to print once a year.

Hi Brent, there are plans to run the course again. We've run it twice successfully so far, and the course facilitators aim to keep improving their online abilities to support the course too. I'd say we'll be running the 3rd course early 09 and hopefully for free to as many as possible (or compost cheap!)

A modular Permaculture Design Course will happen here at the Ooooby Store on Waiheke this year - I have a friend Finn Mackesy (Co Chair of PiNZ) who has agreed to help make it happen! :)

Hi Brent - welcome! From what you have shared with us, I reckon there will be lots of opportunities for creative working together. Drop in sometime to the Ooooby Store at 8 Putiki Rd, and if you are around on Saturday we are having an open day, with music and more. See Events page.
