i turned the compost this morning and it was as hot as a cup of hot carob. absolutely no exaggeration. it was incredible. i added some vege scraps the other day after my day at the soup kitchen and they were nearly composted, just three days later - especially the layer of banana skins i added. it was AMAZING.

when collecting leaves that fell in the gutters on the side of the road, i got my trowel in and dug out the leaves that had been composting in the actual storm water drain bits of the gutter..... it was AMAZING. there were so many earthworms in there and beautiful rich compost. they were the fattest worms i've ever seen, such healthy big fat strong ones. got two big buckets full of compost from in those drains and fed my garden with it and planted up a bit more of the garden with some more… Continue

we collected leaves from the streets for the compost on the weekend. i had used a metal wire tube frame thing that i found lying around in the yard to put the materials in, but mum wants it back, so this morning i found some chicken wire instead and made a tube with that and turned the compost into it. very excitingly, i saw steam come off the compost when i turned it - just like you see on those composting videos.



it's all turned in to the new tube and i will continue to turn it… Continue

Just a quick update about how it's all going in my garden.



The garden I constructed with my sister is kicking along nicely. I've harvested a LOT of basil continuously over the past week or so. It just keeps growing. I have about six really big plants of it out there. The leaves are enormous and tasty. I'm so pleased with how that basil is going.

i planted out the rest of my basil. it's amazing to see the difference in the basil i planted out the other day, it was the same as the stuff i planted out today, i just wanted to check that it went okay before i put the rest out. the stuff in the garden is so much greener than the stuff that was in the pots. and has grown a lot bigger than the potted stuff too. so awesome to see the garden actually starting to take shape.
