Could You Be a Micro-Farmer?

Do you have a decent bit of backyard?  An area the size pictured above could yield a decent harvest if it is done right.

 

The Ooooby Box is looking for people around Auckland who could dedicate some space in their yard to be turned into a micro-farm or who could give their skills and time to running a micro-farm.

 

We need to be able to buy in quantities of around and above 100 servings at a time, so you need to be able to plant a decent amount of just 1 or 2 crops.

 

We can let you know what we want ahead of season so you can choose a crop and get started.

 

If you have some yard space, but not the skill or time, you could pair up a local micro-farmer and share in the harvest.  If you're open to that idea just pop a short comment below indicating the suburb your land is in and approximately how many square meters you would have available.

 

If you have the skills and time,  but no land, pop a short comment below indicating yourself as a potential micro-farmer and your suburb.

 

If you have land, skills and time then pop in a comment too.

 

We can contact anyone who makes a comment to get the ball rolling.

I live in Mangere, I guess that I can provide from one to 3 crops.

I need help to do it properly, at least to start. I pay back with handwork.

I live on the border of Pt Chevalier/Mt Albert. I have a bit of space in my yard, which already grows some veggies but I have been thinking about asking the neighbours if I could commandeer some of the unused communal land to expand into. (I'll have to get out and measure the space.) I'd also be interested in teaming up with someone local. Also, we have a feijoa tree and a grapefruit tree - most of the fruit just drop on the ground and rot...

Yes, I have more than enough space for a micro farm. But alas, I'm too far away to be of use in Auckland. Still, I'd like to know suggestions so that I can impliment them here in our little corner of northeast Ohio, USA. I'll share my results with all. It is still winter here but spring is on the way and I'm just starting plans to grow this season.
