Southampton - Happy harvest season! In hopes of expanding the East End's locavore community, and driving new customers to like-minded restaurants, Edible East End invites restaurants to participate in the first annual Edible Eat Drink Local Week on Sunday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 4, from Manhattan to Montauk.
Part seasonal food festival and part charitable fundraiser, this first-of-its-kind food appreciation week exhorts New Yorkers to get to know the farmers and chefs who fill our bellies, green our region and enrich our lives.
And to support those people.
Here's the deal. The week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 4, restaurants are invited to do what they already do best... - offer a special selection of local ingredients on menus: as a prix fixe, a special dessert, a pairing with a wine, beer, or spirit made on Long Island.
These meals will be available to Edible's community with signage at selected hotels, wine and beer bars, wine shops, culinary schools, tourism associations, farmers markets, and other partner businesses, in New York newspapers and magazines and on local television and radio, including 1010 WINS and WNYC.
At the end of the week, it is hoped that restaurants will make a voluntary tax-deductible contribution to the East End's coalition of edible schoolyard projects, those efforts that are nurturing the conscientious eaters of tomorrow and which now include projects in many towns on both forks. Edible will also be donating revenue from any subscription sales during this week to the East End's coalition of edible schoolyard projects.
Participating restaurants will be added to the partner map, and will receive publicity for what they are doing during the week.
