Caught sight of it in the run around 5 pm - its really huge. I tried putting the cat in the run but he just whined and escaped. I bought a $5 trap and set it with peanut butter, being careful to lock the chooks into their roosting house and shut the gate to keep the cats out. The rats in NZ are polynesian and were brought here by Maori as a food source. Rat is still eaten in Thailand along with snakes, frogs, crickets and silk worms.

Not so far. The el cheapo trap warped and couldnt be re-set so I replaced it with a better quality one, which strangely was cheaper. I need to check if its still coming in. I dont think its found the eggs yet.

I've caught some in our traps big enough to be worth roasting.  But somehow my veggies seem more appealing.... we are obviously not starving yet.  The old peanut butter works a treat, though I now hate the smell and taste of it as it is trap bait as far as I'm concerned!
