Tomato germinated under the north face of a dark rock - suggests we may be achieving spring microclimates in places. Niche planting in microclimates is one of Mollisons strategies for increasing and diversifying yields. Utilising existing variations (sun, shade, wind, shelter, water, contour) conserves energy.
