The last of three occasions to help out at a primary school for this term. They have had a new garden built and the 28 children have chosen the seeds they want to plant and have drawn up plans of where and how they will grow them.
There is news of Govt. cut-backs for this programme but I am told that the school has already budgeted for this activity next year. The South Waikato District Council is looking to support programmes in schools. Talking with the Pride in Putaruru co-ordinator, I discover that she has programmes going in Lichfield, Putaruru and Tirau. All the schools are gardening and there are now five community garden areas in Putaruru with waiting lists for people to participate. Brilliant! Hope Tokoroa can pull its socks up!
