Vancouver plans to the world's greenest city by 2020.

So what are we going to do about that Auckland?

They certainly have their compost together by the looks of their 'Talk Green to Us' site.

I wonder if this new Auckland 'Super City' can live up to it's name and get in the running to join Vancouver on a challenge that means we all win?

If you know of any passionate new members of council who are looking to make a difference, why not share this site with them to whet their appetite for change?

A city lead initiative like this one in Vancouver could be just the thing we need to tip us into a truly sustainable society within the next 10 years.

If you want Auckland (or your own city if you're not in Auckland) to take up the challenge just say 'Aye' in the comments box below.

Well now is the time to get in Len's ear. Talk to Penny Hulse too, as Deputy Mayor she can pull strings and comes from the Eco city... Len says he wants to do 100 things in 100 days. We could get this to be one of them....but it will take some focused energy. And will need to move quickly to be included in planning for when the Auckland council takes over from the various pre-existing council plans at the end of June 2011.

There is an organisation called the Auckland Community Development Alliance, of which I am a part, that could possibly be an initial has been less focused on particular issues but check it out anyway: It's a very basic website but we do have a growing membership and regularly send around invitations to regional events etc. We have a very good relationship with both Len and Penny and have more meetings coming up very soon. It looks and feels very promising so far...another way is to go through community boards. Ideally both could work together...
