Very interesting article on "Sunday" tonight

There was a very interesting article on Sunday tonight, showing how a new green revolution is taking place. Of course we all knew, but it seems the media is cottoning on to the fact that across the nation people are reconnecting with their soil and in some ways their communities by planting their gardens and harvesting and sharing their own crops... awesome. Apparently kids in Ed Hillary School have started gardens at their own homes once they got the gardening bug at school. How wonderful is that? I'm keen to get the kids at my daughter's school involved - maybe we can organise a student garden at her school. It's a bit like the Jamie Oliver cooking thing. Get a little bit of knowledge out there in the community and it has the potential to keep growing and growing...

Yep, totaly agree - did you see the face of the woman who was so proud of her efforts? And her comments: "I'm not totally useless." So many things wrong in society when people see themselves as nearly worthless. It's great that gardening helped give her some confidence.

Here's the link to the video

It was a great piece; gardening as therapy, educational strategy, community development, exercise. Oh, and food. If everyone who could garden, did garden, it would transform the economy.

Now, how does such a transformed economy avoid gouging those who can't grow their own food or some of it?

I watched it too. I was really moved. It IS wonderful to see. Growing food and gardening is such an empowering thing to do. And therapeutic. Better get your fruit trees now.
