Hey Lynn, I'm glad to see you've started up a Titirangi group. We're getting more and more into gardening and now feel we're ready to offer a home to a few chooks. Hence I'm very interested in your henhouse too. So minimalism!

Hi Lynn
I see that you live in South Titirangi Road, as I do, and that you keep chickens too. I am quite curious to find out where you are and was trying to make out from the photographs where that might be.

Hi Lynn and Larry,
I have 3 young hens which I though would be laying eggs by now( they should be around 20 plus weeks old). They are Barnevelders and are very gorgeous!
But alas no eggs yet, we are letting them free range most of the day and feeding them whole organic wheat and sunflower seeds.
Regards
Diane

Hi Lynn and Larry,

No, we are new to the area. My wife Alix and I have two young daughters 6 & 4. Our eldest will be starting at the Steiner school this year and the youngest is off to the kindy....which is pretty much why we are here. We were on 60 acres up north, so a quarter acre in titirangi is a bit of culture shock to us.

We are on Atkinson Rd, so we get the sun but no sea views. Wev'e also got some chooks but certainly not producing 10 eggs a day at this stage. the girls are still settling in I think. We have got a few vegies but nothing to trade yet. I'm currently are eying off the garden for a permaculture design. Already quite a few fruit trees but with good design you there's always a place for something edible.

Would love to catch up with you sometime.

Cheers
Richard

Timing is everything...

We go away for 10 days in January, so I try hard to arrange things in the garden so that there is not too much of a glut around this time. Mixed results at the moment - the climbing beans are climbing fast but no flowers yet, so that's good; the tomatoes have a few just starting to ripen but not many, good; cucumber growing but only flowers at present, good; celery regenerating as we pick it; BUT, the courgette is going nuts as are the lettuces. Parsley and spinach are going to seed. I'm thinkin…
