Yeah, I developed a big seed obsession this winter. I decided to get heirloom seeds as much as possible so I could save seeds and not have to keep buying them every season. The problem is I kept finding new interesting things to try!

Hmm yeah, I imagine they would eventually break down. A friend has some cool raised beds that he built out of big bits of driftwood from the beach near him... I think they're very neat, but it'd take a bit of time to collect some decent big bits of drift wood!

Colin hasn't put the address up but I'll let you know a bit nearer to the time or you can message him and ask.

The problem for me is I'm growing everything I have because I'm so excited about trying it all... I don't know how I'm going to fit everything in. :D We've got heaps of stuff started already (decided to try sowing seed indoors in a makeshift indoor greenhouse) so I'm going to have plenty to share.

I'll be at the next meeting, and it will be nice to meet you. :)

Oh, also check out the landscaping place on Taradale Rd, near Palmers. They have some great cheapish sleepers. If you decide you want to try bins, I know someone that you can get them through too! We've got one, but I use it for wood at the moment because we're only renting this house - I don't want to shift a bin full of soil when we move!

Another idea for building your raised beds - if you need them quite high for your back, how about fruit bins? You can get them if you know the right people for $50-ish each.

Just looked at your question about raised beds.
Other materials people have used for borders include stone-you can use a bit of mortar to build a rised side or just large loose stones.
Concrete blocks,or any sort of brick, if you've got a supply.
Driftwood.
Or how about posts and corrugated iron sides?
