Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

I have 1 acre of land in Ngaruawahia on which I am constructing a very small eco house and have a fenced off a small piece for a garden and have also been planting veges on the topsoil heaps with some success - it all started by accident. Having purchased the land and not intending to build for a while, I felt a fenced orchard was in order. 5 various fruit tree where purchased and planted. As there were no animals on the peice of land I didn't think a gate was essential but when the neigbours cows broke into my section and distroyed all the fruit tree bar the Quince i was devastated and left everything for a year. When i started to build the next year I felt the enclosure was going to waste and perhaps a vege garden might be in order borrowing the neighbours rotory hoe and planted some potatoes. Well that was it - watching the tubers turn into plants, then the harvest - wow 'Like panning for gold - you never know what will emerge. And they taste fantastic! I am also growing unusual varieties. There have been major set backs adding live stock to the mix; an accident that left me on crutches for twelve weeks; cows that ignored my feeble atempts at fencing while on crutches and dessimated my expanded garden several times. Anyway thats my brief history of becoming a gardener with no experience.
