Learn and experiment with low-cost, low-energy and sustainable technologies for living and building. Techniques will be primarily suited to New Zealand's conditions, available materials and regulations. Topics include passive heating and cooling, electricity generation, rocket stoves and solar systems for heating and cooking. Design of non-electric fridges, washing machines, composting toilets and grey water systems.
Tim Barker has many years experience experimenting and refining techniques, working with alternative technology - for everyday living - cooking, water heating, toilet systems, pumps and all aspects of autonomous housing. He is currently in residence at the Koanga Institute, after working at the PRI in Australia.
Bob Corker has spent many years working with alternative building techniques - focused on local resources and natural, healthy materials.
