Event Description

Want to grow your own fresh fruit and vegetables but don’t know where to start? Join NZ Gardener magazine’s entertaining editor-at-large LYNDA HALLINAN for expert tips about self-sufficiency on a shoestring budget. Find out how to reduce waste, stop using chemicals, save cash and save the planet – and have fun doing it.

Lynda will reveal her favourite crops and practical vege growing hints, plus recipes for pickling, preserving and home-brewing. In 2007, Lynda cut her weekly grocery bill to $10 by growing, swapping and selling the seasonal harvests from her inner-city Auckland garden. This year she has moved to a 17ha lifestyle block in Hunua, which she shares with her partner, two dogs, four cats, seven hens, three roosters, 12 heifers and an obese ewe called Harold who thinks she's a cow.

Her next challenge: a pick-your-own berry farm and heritage fruit tree orchard.
