Newspaper and Cardboard Recycling 8 Replies

There are so many uses for newspaper and cardboard recycling in the garden that I've gotten to the point that I can't live without this stuff. My first yard was built using the 'Layering or Lasagna"…Continue

TRELLISES! 8 Replies

No matter what type of gardening you do, trellises are in demand! I had a strong wind hit and it just about took all my hollyhocks down right at the time of their prime bloom. I wound up having to…Continue

Greenhouses & Cold Frames / Re-purposing Old Windows & Doors 13 Replies

This year I have truly noticed a change in the weather patterns. I live in a coastal area and the fog banks this summer left me in a cold cloud for a couple of weeks. On several days the fog never…Continue

What to do with ductwork...

My youngest son completed a college-course sheet metal program and was continually bringing "NEAT" stuff home to show us.  As scrap metal, it is too thin to have much weight or value.  Looking at…Continue

LOL! You gals can have my rain! It hasn't stopped all year! I might be building an Sailboat/Ark soon! I know I can do that in my backyard!

Yes, I agree with you, Sheri...the city will make money one way or the other. I think it's stupid to have to have licenses for indoor pets, but we've complied with have no choice when you go to the vet. I think the fellow doing all the gardening is a hero of sorts, especially giving away some of his produce...I'm sure he doesn't make a fortune at the Farmers market. Geesh, I wonder if they'll come after me for giving a couple of my neighbors fresh six plants too many?

In Colorado the water laws are written so you never really know if you are in trouble. LOL I think we can use rain water now. I have drains on my down spouts that go where I want it to and some rain garden plans in the works. I can only fix this place so fast. Not doing bad for only moving here a couple of months ago!

I think what might be happening is the city wants to fine him for operating a farm/garden growing business. He supplements by selling at his local farmers market, which is a wonderful way to make your property pay for itself or could really help someone out who is on a fixed income. I doubt that what he makes at a local Farmers Market barely covers his cost for seed and other things he has put into his soil. I think their trying to nail him on lost revenue. Where I live, I had to get a permit ($) to excavate out my old useless yard. It's getting down right stupid.

Wow...looks like you'd better check the covenants! I watched the video and also red the rainwater article! I think this is ridiculous...if you want to gather rainwater, why not?!? And, if have space for veggies for your table and for others...why not?!? My daughter works at a food bank, and they are so greatful when gardeners bring in their extra fruits and veggies to help out those less fortunate.

This is an eyeopener! I live in an area with a "Home Owners Association". I think I better reread my Homeowner rules before I plant!

Homeowner being fined $5000 for growing too many vegetables on his property.

Harvesting rainwater is illegal in some states and cities!

Thanks for the welcome Sheri. I think I will stick with my practical mess, it scares the burglars away. I'll do the junk you can have the funk. ;-)
