I'm easy, I'm interested in hearing of ways of avoiding weeding but think weeding itself can be quite pleasant relaxing work, unless you leave it too long.
I just plant things very close together and add weed-free compost each year, I still have to weed. I don't have any preference on how Kai o Te Aro should do it.
Personally I'm a mulch fan (keeps the weeds down, feeds the soil and keeps moisture and warmth in all at the same time).
But in the spring I find mulch doesn't work so well because birds dig through it feverishly looking for worms for their chicks, and tend to uproot your seedlings too.

I definitely vote for full rempval of toxic/noxious/uberinvasice weeds such as Old Man's Beard and Arum Lilly.
