Hi last year I changed over to coconut oil for any frying, we don't do a lot but its a nice change, it smells like coconut while cooking but hubby never noticed the change and hes usually picky about things like that.

I grew up on butter and parents always said margarine was close to the recipe for plastic so have never eaten it.

Using ground almonds instead of white flour seems to be a good swap. They are more costly though.

one recipe I have used a few times is the pastry, letting it sit for half a day seems to mellow it and makes it tender even when its wholemeal.
