Lucinda Place Community Orchard

The whole orchard [0.33 hectares] is looked sfter using organic methods. The grass areas are cut using scythes. If you have never seen or used a scythe before, they are magnificently efficient to use. Quiet, rythmic, eco-friendly and mediative to use, with a bit of practice scything is a great way to exercise and keep the orchard meadow cut.

Just a wee reminder that the orchard working bee is this weekend, 9 November @ 2-4 pm. Looking at carrying on with 'doing' the gardens we never seem to get to & probably time for some mulch bag replacement...maybe some scything if it's not too wet?

Hope to see you all there, wheel barrows would be a great help if you are able to get one there easily..

We talked a few months ago at a GETT meeting about having a celebration at the orchard. would be  a nice way to wind up the year...lets talk about ideas on Saturday

Kia ora Kotou,
It's the best time of the year, so time for another working bee at the orchard...
We are looking at 5 October 2-4 pm. It will be great to see y'all there. Bring your enthusiasm, wheelbarrows & shovels particularly appreciated if you are able to bring them & feel free to bring your kids, it's always nice to have them playing in the orchard. Probably water is a good idea this time of the year as well..
Great news, we have been selected to trial a community beehive, we are looking forward to starting this project. Last time we planted heaps of seeds & some elderberry cuttings & did a heap of weeding....
Hopefully see you soon

Tony is planning a working bee for Saturday 31 August, 2-4 in the afternoon.
He is looking at us feeding trees (maybe use some of that lovely wormfarm wee!), & mulching around those trees at the ends of the orchard that still need it.

We want to focus on the trees that aren't doing so well..

We are looking at the usual of weeding & mulching as well...
Please bring yourselves, any tools you think might be useful (some wheelbarrows would be great) & your kids...
Will be great to see those of you who can make it, will be great to get the orchard looking great for the rampant growth in spring...

Just a wee reminder for those of you who 'do' meetings, there is a GETT meeting at Glen Eden School on September 2 @ 7pm. would be great to see those of you who can make that as well

We would like to get the orchard tidied up in preparation for Eco-month....
So, planning a working bee for Sunday 24 February  1.30- 4.30 for a general tidy-up.
It is a bit longer than normal, sometimes we have been working past 4pm by consensus, so thought we would try for a bit longer.
Just turn up for what you can...
The usuals... bring your kids, wheelbarrows, if you can get them there easily, & your enthusiasm :)
Tony will have tools, scythes & gloves.
Thanks heaps for the work you have all done over the last year, it's been fabulous to see new faces & catch up with people who have been involved with the project for years...The orchard is looking chaotically beautiful. The trees seem to be doing really well this year.

Usual things, bring your kids, enthusiasm & any tools you might think would be useful...
Probably looking @ weeding, composting &mulching. Maybe some scything if the grass has grown enough...
