Cardboard is the first layer, then straw and compost. I have planted chives, beans, parsley, echineca and some wildflowers.

Hello! What was used for creating this patch? Did you put cartons/newspaper underneath? What are you going to plant in it?
I am a lazy gardener and I would not dream of digging. I will push the fork in and loosen, though. I have prepared a small patch for corn - see photo. I want to plant four different varieties so each area will be small. I have lupin growing in another patch which will be covered with compost in due course.
