Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

I have yet to measure the square metres, but it's a backyard garden with 6 large raised beds, and we grow as wide a range of vegies as we can in it, from potatoes, to corn, to summer and winter greens, and several root crops. No fruit trees as yet. We try to do everything organically.

  • Hi, Jenny,

thanks for replying.  I am certainly interested in working more closely together with others here in Rotorua re seed saving, planting vegies in surplus and swapping, canning, etc.

Have had a great front garden but the raised beds were made out of soft wood for which I paid a fortune.  Had to rip it all out and am now re-thinking and re-working the garden from scretch. Aim is to have as much self-sufficiency as possible, both to help the wallet and teach the children.

So that's where I am coming from.  What are your plans?

    Regards Stephan

  • Hey Jenny, of course I remember you! Especially cos you brought us food one time! How have you been? Although my veg garden is not that big I would love to share seeds etc with you. At the moment I have harvested lots of calendula, parsnip, parsley and rocket seeds. My garden is a mess though as I didn't quite achieve my summer planting goals - it's always the way though isn't it? Hope you are well. Let me know if you want to meet up for a cuppa sometime to compare gardening stories. Rebecca :-)
  • hey jenny, thanks for the welcome. thats crazy cos Murray O’Laoire office is just around the corner from my house, a friend of mine also working there, and i told my housemate and turns out shes was out drinking with kevin there one night....small world. just cant wait to get goin now and get stuck into wellington, gotta find a job and a house with a bit of a garden. when exactly does the main plantng season start in nz? i know we are arriving in the middle of winter ( 1st july) is it november time?
  • Yes, come by anytime to raid our bay plant - its near the back deck.
you might be able to identify whatever I planted and is growing like crazy too-a bit like Mizuna but huge.
  • Hi Jenny! Sorry for the tardy reply, I just seem to be so busy with other things that by the time I think to call you it is too late in the day!! I do have a few seedlings, they have been visited by the swarms of white butterfly's I have but are ok, and I am more than happy for you to have some, so I will aim to call you sometime this week. Also, we will have to work out together what they are as I seemed to have lost or moved their labels:) They are winter ones though!!! talk soon
  • Thanks Jenny. She is gone.
  • Thanks for the feedback Jenny. One of those little bugs that have slipped through the gaps. Love your profile picci. Very cute. We've got Grannie here at the moment looking after little Toby too. And welcome to Ooooby. Thanks for joining. In the meantime you can just create a group and mimic the set up of the other sharing groups. Just copy and paste the description.
