Tell us about your garden and what you're growing

We rent a flat in Balmoral with a small garden. We live with four black australorps who have just started laying at last. Over summer we grew tomatoes, corn, beans, pumpkin, cucumber, watermelon, salad greens, silverbeet, spinach and lots of herbs and things. We have a feijoa tree and last autumn made some pretty good feijoa wine. Our garden is free of all pesticides/sprays etc, and we prefer to use companion planting and resigning ourselves to sharing the garden with other bugs. Our garden is lots of fun, and we both like creating things in it.

  • Great, thanks, can you send me a picture closer to the bamboo stake.
I am not very smart with that things, sorry.
I think I found a way at home.
By the way, I am running out of bamboo stakes, I dont want to go to buy expensive money for that, I prefer invest in something else, Where can I get some?
  • Again, how do you protect the garden from the chickens
  • Sarah: I dont use hay, I use dry grass clippings. Also I talked with a guy who do lawn mowing around, and he drops his grass clippings at home, then I put the grass clippings on milk trays until is dry.

If it is urgent, you can put shredded papers until you have the dry grass.

  • I am talking about fence chicken vs garden.

On the other hand, I remember that I bought chickens to eat the slugs, as they didnt work chickens went into the coop, so they are doing weeding and I put ducks.

The ducks eat more broccolis and cabages and pak choi than all the slugs together.

So, how can I do what I read in the books that the ducks are good to eat pests.

  • Hi Sarah

Can you send me a picture about your fences.

I come from disaster to disaster.

  • How do you protect the garden from the chickens?
