  • How wonderful-that's pretty special.Neat that you won. I adore chick peas, so if you do have some spare seed from your harvest I'd love to do a swap one day.
  • No-I didn't. What did you win? Intriguing.
  • That's great-I'm glad it WAS you!
  • Hi Tiffany-was that your name I saw on the NZ Gardener Get Growing Prizelist?
  • Hi Tiffany, thanks for your comments - it's certainly a great place to be. Will update soon :-)
Re your digging up your lawn - I'm with you all the way - do whatever you need to get what you want - and it's often possible to do it without using poisons, but still without major amounts of additional work. I started a new garden this winter by covering the kikuyu with waste - kitchen scraps, and vege and flower garden carbon and green materials. I've just started scraping the top layer of the resulting compost off, and will plant corn seed in the next few days. Like yours, my husband looked askance at it at first - in fact for several months, since it was 'cold' rather than 'hot' composting and definitely didn't look attractive. However, last week he boxed it in, and now I've scraped it, it's starting to look like a real raised bed, and he's delighted with the result.
  • yeh i love the cottage garden look with flowers and veges all together, i known my dad is going to want to weed it all and 'sort it out' when he comes to visit though !
  • Thanks so much for that, the vege gardens are well marked out and they have had tomatoes, beans and asian veges that i can see, as for the soil i dont remember as we move in in 1 week but i think the compost on first is a good idea - can i compost around existing plants? the old owners said to expect a lot of seedling to come up as they let things self seed each year, so there may be a few starting soon. I love the idea of companion planting so im definately looking into that. Thanks for the advice
  • Yes-I've been watching it too. I like the potions he makes. My remedies have always been more basic-teas and infusions-but I do make my own face cream. Thanks, for thinking of me.
  • Hi Tiffany.Love your garden pics. Your seeds look exciting.I've just bought some German chamomile for Kings too.I used to have it in the garden but I lost it.St Johns Wort would be a good one to have in the garden.I'm interested to know how you get on with growing it.I love having my own supply of medicinal herbs.
  • A pleasure Tiffany. Glad you like it.
