Welcome to Ooooby

A little background
This site was setup in mid December 2008, so you can see Ooooby is very young, in fact (s)he is just a baby, so be gentle and know that (s)he has a lot of growing to do, will need your support along with lots of nurturing in order to grow up and become a fully fledged and valuable member of our global community.

The first Ooooby Store opened on Waiheke Island (NZ) on the 10th of January 2008 with much fanfare. More will come soon.

Things to do on Ooooby
  • Connect with others in your area in order to share food, seedlings, seeds, information and more. See the Sharing menu or have a look at the Waiheke Sharing activity.
  • Invite some friends who are into food growing. Then you will have more people to share things with.
  • When you have some people in your local area also on Ooooby, then you will be able to invite them to work with you on projects, like this one for creating a food forest on Waiheke.
  • Get some inspiration from the growing library of great videos. And of course add your own favourite food related videos
  • Share some of your favourite photos.
  • Check out the helpful noooobies tips for using this site and getting started.

Ooooby is about
  • Building open source web solutions to inspire, encourage and enable people to grow food and connect with other food growers.
  • Supporting the establishment of Ooooby Stores to "keep it real" and compliment the online community.
  • And to end here are a couple of videos of James and Pete talking about Ooooby. Jan 8th, and Feb 12th

New to gardening with limitations. Hoping to have some great new ideas and friends in here. Live in the States so that will keep me from some of the goings on, but as a few weeks go by and our summer comes on we will be able to make some Ooooby fun of our own.

I am excited about belonging to Ooooby. I am a new gardener and am keen to get tips, help and encouragement from other gardeners. I'm also keen to find people to share produce with - assuming I have any to share!!

If you are wondering which one I am in the photo I'm in blue and this is my cousin beside me
I would like to swap seeds and cuttings with people in my local area an chat with others about gardening.
Over the last couple of months I have been planting and planning my garden by the moon calendar - so far the results have been ok, the main thing that it has done for me is get me more organized as certain things can only been done on certain days. I want to be able to produce all of our household needs for fresh veggies & would like to be able to make my own jams and preserves.

I have a bit of gardenign knowledge but would really benefit from some hands-on advice. That's what I think is so great about his, it's not just about trading STUFF, it's also all about knowledge and inspiration and fun.

Love the idea. Keep it up. Along with my garden, I do a lot of crafts and have chooks. Am real keen on the trading thing.
