I was speaking to Richard Watson last week and he mentioned that he's already planted all of his garlic so thought that I'd try planting some of mine too. I usually plant my garlic in mid May, before the frost gets a chance to freeze the ground and make it impossible to dig:) Am not ready to plant all my garlic yet, two of the beds aren't ready - they have still got a sacrificial crop of Moonlight potatoes in them - they're newly cultivated beds that had been mulched for a couple of years in an attempt to tame the couch grass:) I still had to dig them over but at least the couch was all on the surface in a thick mat. It may just be psychological but the re growth has been much more manageable - maybe the potato really does deter couch. The mulched beds also have loads of lovely worms, they obviously like living under a cosy bed of newspaper, cardboard and coffee grinds:)

you  planting already? is that to get them going before the frosts or what? I have noticed rogue ones starting to sprout in my garden.
