Managed to get another trench done yesterday before a certain little person got bored and wanted to go inside! Was hoping to do more today but the weather's packing in and I'm developing a cold, joy :/ We'll get there, eventually. In the meantime Robbie wanted to see a photo of what the garden looks like - here's one from the real estate agent just before we bought the place, so about 3months ago? So you can double the size of the weeds ;) Now I think of it, I should have taken some proper "before" shots of the plots so I can see the difference I make.

The plots are on the right hand side of this picture going down the garden by the fence. The birdhouse and the bean trainer frame (goalpost-y thing on the right hand side) both went with the previous owner sadly, but so did the disgusting old incinerator on the right hand side of the next photo:

The rainwater barrel stayed, luckily, and behind the greenhouses going down the hill is an orchard of about 4-5 old apple trees and a chookhouse.

But as you can see, there's much work to do!

Mitts off my glasshouse, Meri! :P I've got some yellow cherry tomato seeds I plan to pot up soon, and I think I've still got some Moneymaker seeds from last year. If you grow too much (is there ever such a thing? ;) I'm planning to set up a Frugal Dunedin forum, so it'd be a good place to do some swapping for other people's produce. Otherwise I know that Anglican Support (?) have notices up around the city asking gardeners to grow an extra row to give to the food bank.

Our lawn at the back doesn't get as much sun as I thought it did, but I think it depends on the time of year and where the sun is in the sky.

I know I say this every time I see it, but I am SO jealous of your glasshouse. It looks like you've got a really really nice sunny space for all your veggies out the back too... How exciting. :) Our back yard is a bit awkward, because there's only really one spot that's useable - too many random things that give too much shade at various points during the day... If only the garage, shed, and lemon tree weren't there. ;)

I'm seeing a full scale backyard farm. One trench at a time...

Oh wow, that is a KILLER glass house you've got there! I sense tomatoes. Lots and LOTS of tomatoes.

I should take pictures of my backyard before I start digging in it - it's pretty much a blank slate at the moment and I'm trying to decide whether to just start digging or actually make some sort of longer term plan. I have two problems anyway - one, whatever I grow I'm probably going to grow way more than I can eat since there's only me and I eat less than your average african orphan, and two, a good third (or more) of the yard on one side gets no sun whatsoever, even though I had the hedge cut back by a good few feet. Maybe I should just come and steal your glasshouse.

What's Buzzing?
